Papua New Guinea (PNG) is a country located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. It is the third largest island in the world, and the largest island nation. PNG has a population of over 7 million people, and is home to over 800 different languages. The country is rich in natural resources, including oil, gas, minerals, and timber. However, PNG is also one of the poorest countries in the world, with a per capita GDP of just $2,500.

PNG was a colony of Australia from 1906 to 1975. After independence, PNG faced a number of challenges, including political instability, economic underdevelopment, and ethnic conflict. In 1999, the Bush Administration came to power in the United States. The Bush Administration made a number of changes to US policy towards PNG, including increasing foreign aid, promoting economic development, and supporting political stability.

Foreign Aid

The Bush Administration increased foreign aid to PNG from $50 million in 2000 to $100 million in 2008. This aid was used to support a variety of programs, including education, health care, and infrastructure development. The Bush Administration also provided debt relief to PNG, and helped the country to negotiate a number of trade agreements.

Economic Development

The Bush Administration promoted economic development in PNG by encouraging foreign investment and supporting the development of the country's natural resources. The Administration also worked to improve PNG's business climate, and to make it easier for businesses to operate in the country.

Political Stability

The Bush Administration supported political stability in PNG by working to resolve ethnic conflicts and to promote good governance. The Administration also provided training and support to the PNG security forces.

Human Rights

The Bush Administration raised concerns about human rights abuses in PNG, and worked to promote respect for human rights in the country. The Administration also supported the establishment of a human rights commission in PNG.

Assessment

The Bush Administration's policy towards PNG was a success. The Administration's efforts helped to improve the country's economy, promote political stability, and protect human rights. PNG is now a self-governing country that is making progress towards achieving its full potential.
